It’s Alright, Cause I’m Saved By The Max

What’s up preppy? If that phrase took you back to Saturday mornings eating Froot Loops and watching “Saved by the Bell” in your pajamas, then your new favorite hangout is here. Saved by the Max is now in Chicago!

The pop-up diner is in the heart of Wicker Park and will be in town until May 31. As a superfan himself, the organizer, Derek Berry, left no detail out when designing the iconic diner. According to Eater Chicago, “contractors carefully studied episodes and looked at angles so the restaurant could best emulate the TV show.”

Needless to say I couldn’t wait until it was my turn to eat at the hottest hangout in Bayside. Walking past the glowing hot pink sign on North Avenue gave me goosebumps, but as soon as I walked in the door, I was instantly taken back in time. Through the Bayside High School hallway, you are guided into The Max where episodes of “Saved by the Bell” are on the TVs, fanatics are playing arcade games, the jukebox is ready to go, and tasty diner classics await.

With the diverse and pun-filled menu, the whole gang found something that called their name. The highlight of the night, however, was dessert. “Max’s Magical Sweet Tooth” is made with blueberry muffin ice cream, shortbread, and candied lemon, topped with decadent whipped crème fraiche and blueberry jam.

Saved by the Max was a one-of-a-kind experience any “Saved by the Bell” fan should try. The only missing details were Zack, Screech, Kelly, Slater, Jessie, and Lisa!

Note: Saved by the Max highly recommends making a reservation, though limited walk-ins are available. The pop-up can be found at 1941 W. North Ave. Chicago, IL 60622.

  1. Olivia! I loved this blog post. I think your creativity really shines through your writing in this piece. I also think you do a good job talking about all the aspects of the pop up form design to the menu. You also inform us on how we can participate in it ourselves. One of the “Saved By The Max” pop ups creators will be speaking at DePaul PRSSA’s PRpalooza this weekend. I’m really excited to hear what he has to say about the PR aspect of the pop up.

  2. I really liked this post! The way you described the diner made it easy for me to imagine exactly what it was like. I’ll have to be sure to check this place out before May 31, and have to make a reservation too! I also like how you included your Insta handle – I just followed your account (it’s very aesthetically pleasing by the way). 🙂 Thanks for sharing this!

  3. Hi Olivia,
great post, I like that you used both a personal and professional approach. The personal experience makes it relatable and easy to read, the professional touch comes in when you refer to your Instagram. Well done!
